CygNet Explorer User Interface – Context Menus

The two panes in CygNet Explorer access different context menu options: the service hierarchy (left pane) and the service pane (right pane).

Service Hierarchy

The context menu available for the services in the service hierarchy includes the following options:

Option Description

Filter

Filter services displayed in the service hierarchy.

Options include:

  • New
  • Edit
  • Delete
  • Apply

Show

Change the way the name of the services are displayed in the service hierarchy.

Options include:

  • Service Only — for example, CAS
  • Description Only — for example, Common Alarm Service
  • Description (Service) — for example, Common Alarm Service (CAS)
  • Service (Description) — for example, CAS (Common Alarm Service)

Note: The services will be reordered alphabetically.

Auto Refresh

Click to automatically refresh status indicators when services start or stop.

Note: Only seen for the top-level domain node of the service hierarchy.

Service Control Arrow

Manage the service as necessary. The service icons and states will automatically refresh as the services start, stop and restart. Options include:

  • Start — The RSM will start the selected service. See Service Management for more information.
  • Stop — The RSM will stop the selected service. See Service Management for more information.
  • Kill — Kill the selected service. When a service is killed, a Microsoft Windows "stop" message is sent to the service. Only use if the service is not responding to a normal CygNet stop request.See Remote Service Manager and Service Management for more information.
  • Restart — The RSM will restart the selected service. See Service Management for more information.

Notes:

These controls are disabled for the primary RSM.

If you have multiple RSMs configured, the system will automatically detect which services to control.

Launch Console

Launch the CygNet Console for the selected service. Opening CygNet Console this way utilizes version management. If User Account Control (UAC) is enabled, launching CygNet Console will require administrator-level permission, if CygNet Console requires updating. See CygNet and User Account Control for more information.

Note: You can ensure the launched application runs on the same (or different) domain by setting the /domain parameter in the .app file.

Service Details

View CygNet Service Information (Service Details) for the selected service. See Viewing Service Details for more information.

Remote Desktop

Connect to a remote computer running the selected service.

Properties

Show or change the properties for the selected item. The dialog box displayed will depend on the item selected:

  • If you have selected a service in the service hierarchy, the SITE.SERVICE Properties dialog box will display.
  • If you have selected a record in the service pane, the appropriate dialog box will open for the selected service.

Service Pane

The context menus available for the service records in the service pane differ depending on the service and the record being viewed.

Service Option Description
All Services
 

New

Select to create a new record for the selected service or item. Not displayed for the CAS, CVS, VHS.

Delete

Select to delete the selected record or item. All deletions will require confirmation. Shortcut is DEL key. Not displayed for the AUD, CAS, CVS.

Properties

Show or change the properties for the selected item. The dialog box displayed will depend on the item selected:

  • If you have selected a service in the service hierarchy, the SITE.SERVICE Properties dialog box will display.
  • If you have selected a record in the service pane, the appropriate dialog box will open for the selected service.

Not displayed for the CAS, CVS, VHS.

Replace File…

Select to manage the files in the Blob service.

Display the records in reverse order.

Configure Attributes…

Select to configure Audit Service Definitions.

CAS

CVSs

(HSS, OPCIS, SVCMON, and UIS)

Point Properties

Click to access the Point Properties dialog box containing the Point Properties for the selected point including current value, point state details, point attributes, status bit details, and additional options.

Edit Point Value

Select to edit the point value for the selected point.

Value History

View the History Values for a point.

Point Configuration

Select to access the Properties for Point dialog box, containing the PNT properties editor for the selected point.

Facility Configuration

Select to access the Properties for Facility dialog box, where you can edit Facility properties for the point.

Comm Data View

(UIS / Remote & Comm Devices only)

Opens the Communications Data Viewer for the selected device.

Details

Opens the Device Information for the selected device.

View Pending Queue

Opens the Communications Queue for the selected device.

View Arrow

(UIS only)

Select to go to the desired page of UIS data.

  • Remote Devices
  • Comm Devices
  • Import/Export Devices
  • Current Values

View Response Transaction Queue

Opens the Response Transaction Queue for the selected device.

View Response Point Queue

Opens the Response Point Queue for the selected device.

View Wait Queue

Opens the Wait Queue for the selected device.

View Message Queue

Opens the Message Queue for the selected device. UIS only.

View By Arrow

Sort the list of points by facility, long point ID, point ID, or UDC.

  • Facility ID
  • Long Point ID
  • Point ID
  • Uniform Data Code

Jump To <point or item>…

Jump to selected point or item. The sort column is based on the View By choice. Shortcut is Ctrl+J.

DBS-Based Services

Select Search…

Select a search index.

Jump To…

Jump to selected field. The fields listed are based on the selected index. Shortcut is (Ctrl+J).

Hide Database Key

Click to Hide/Display the column in the service pane containing Data key values for each record.

DDS

New

Select to configure a partially configured (shallow) copy of the existing device.

Properties

Select to view the properties of the selected device.

Copy

Select to copy the selected device. See Copying a Remote Device.

Delete

See Deleting a Remote Device.

New Remote Device

See Configuring a Remote Device.

New Comm Device

See Configuring a Communications Device.

New Import/Export Device

See Configuring a Import/Export Device.

Device Definitions…

Select to view and manage device definitions and template file operations. See Editing a Device Template File.

Import/Export…

Select to import and export devices. See Exporting and Importing Devices.

ELS/ELSALM

Reverse Sort

Display the records in reverse order.

Configure Attributes…

Select to configure Event Logging Service Definitions.

 

Point Properties...

Click to access the Point Properties dialog box containing the Point Properties for the selected point including current value, point state details, point attributes, status bit details, and additional options.

 

Point Configuration...

Select to access the Properties for Point dialog box, containing the PNT properties editor for the selected point.

FAC

Configure Attributes…

Select to configure User Defined Facility Attribute Definitions.

FMS

View Node properties

Select to view properties for the selected node.

View polling device

Select to view the polling device for the selected node.

View polling FAC

Select to view the polling FAC for the selected node.

View reporting FAC

Select to view the reporting FAC for the selected node.

Execute FMS command

Select to execute an FMS command (<Quick Command> only) for the selected node.

GNS

Select All

Select all notifications in the queue.

Ack

Acknowledge the notification.

View Queue

Select to go to the Notification page. See Managing the GNS Queue.

View PIN Manager

Click to open the GNS PIN Manager, which is used to manage the users who are permitted to send acknowledgment emails (and SMSs).

View Notification Plugin Manager

Click to open the GNS Notification Plugin Manager, which is used to configure custom notification plugins.

Delete Notification Entries

Select to delete an entry. See Managing the GNS Queue.

Acknowledge Resend Entries

Select to acknowledge resent entry. See Managing the GNS Queue.

GRP

Configure Attributes…

Select to configure Group Service Metadata.

MSS

Execute Now

Select this option to execute an MSS task immediately. For one instance only, Execute Now issues the selected task to its respective service. The task's priority determines when the task will initiate an actual poll. After the task executes, polling returns to the task's scheduled routine.

Note: You must either have administrative access to the service or have "update" level access to the security event EXECNOW to run this task.

Activate

Select this option to activate a highlighted task without opening its property sheet.

Deactivate

Select this option to deactivate a highlighted task without opening its property sheet.

View Blackouts

Select this option to view the Blackouts page of the MSS.

View Tasks

Select this option to view the Tasks page of the MSS.

NOTE

Reverse Sort

Display the records in reverse order.

Configure Attributes…

Select to configure Note Metadata Configuration.

PNT

New

Select to access the New Point dialog box to add a new point.

Delete

Select to access the Delete Point dialog box to delete the point selected. Deletions require confirmation. Keyboard shortcut is DEL key.

Properties

Select to access the Properties for Point dialog box, containing the PNT properties editor for the selected point.

Copy Points for Facility

Select to access the Facility Point Copy dialog box to copy multiple points associated with a facility or a subset of those points. See Copying a Point for more information.

Select Search

Select to access the Select Search dialog box to select a search index.

Jump To

Jump to selected point or item. The sort column is based on the View By choice. Shortcut is Ctrl+J.

Click to Hide/Display the column in the service pane containing Data key values for each record.

Current Value…

Click to access the Point Properties dialog box containing the Point Properties for the selected point including current value, point state details, point attributes, status bit details, and additional options.

Use these options to copy the desired item to the clipboard.

Configure Attributes…

Select to access the Point Service Definitions dialog box to configure Point Service Definitions, including both attribute definitions and configurable bit states.

Configure RSM

Configure Status and General information about the selected service.

Configure RSM Redundancy

Select to define all the relationships between the servers, hosts, and sites in your redundancy environment. Once the redundancy definition is known by the system, you can execute manual and automatic failover between machines, stop and start sites, and allow domains to switch roles, to support availability across data centers. See CygNet Redundancy Editor for more information.

Configure Service Groups

Configure the order in which your services will startup and shutdown. See Configuring Service Startup and Shutdown Order for more information.

Refresh

Refresh the service or record information. Shortcut is F5.

VHS

Delete

Delete the selected point and all values. This action cannot be undone.

View byArrow

Toggle between sorting the list of points by point ID and long point ID. See History Records.

Jump To

Jump to selected point. The point is based on the View By choice. See History Records.

View Values

View the History Values for a point.
